Why is this pine cone red?

 This Spring, I noticed a red color coming from the top of my Norway Spruce (Blue Spruce). When I investigated this, I found a red pine cone.

After searching all over the internet, a friend of mine found this information and sent it to me. It makes perfect sense. Talk about the color of love!
